• CAMFORD DESIGN, a new company, has been launched by the Bedford-based Camford Croup, to provide a product design and engineering service to the Group's customers. The new company occupies a £2 million complex housing £1 million worth of computer design, analysis and test technology.
Camford Design will also design and develop a range of "Camford Products" to be marketed to the motor industry. The Group's customers include all major UK and a number of major European vehicle manufacturers.
At the launch. Minister for Industry and Enterprise Douglas Hogg praised. Camford's ability to maintain its competitive edge.
• SHELL Oils with the backing of the AA is selecting top independent garages — there are more than 25,000 in the UK — to form a network of Gemini Service Centres to provide top-class servicing for motorists.
Motor Plus Contracts of Derby is the first one to open — identifiable by a "Gemini Jim" sign.
• HENLYS is expanding its apprenticeship scheme launched last year for trainees in service, parts and botlyshops. Eighty to 90 youngsters will be recruited this year.
• HOLT LLOYD is among companies introducing new products at Autopartac, Olympia, London, 4-6 March.
