• Home-study courses on the transport of dangerous goods by road came under fire again this week. Last week they were attacked by Eddie Pargeter of EP Training Services as "potentially misleading and lacking proper supervision" (CM 25-31 January).
Now, the Road Transport Industry Training Board has backed Pargeter's view, but predicts that an impending EC Directive on vocational training will "kill off the courses" in any case. The directive, which comes into force in July 1992, says that training should be given "in the form of theoretical courses accompanied by practical exercises".
"I can't see any way this directive will allow home study for the transport of dangerous goods," says Dick Juby of the RTITB.
