Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Contributions to Commercial Motor's Wheel Loss Fund continue to come in — but we've still got a long way to go before we can call it a day. Among the latest messages of support is one from a solicitor who felt strongly enough about the problem to back his concern with a fiver. Every bit helps, but let's have some more; especially from hauliers.

The overriding message that is coming back from you is that there is a wide spread of attitude and opinion on the best way to secure wheels and why some operators, despite taking extensive maintenance steps to prevent it, are losing wheels.

The IRTE and MIRA have already carried out valuable research into the problem, but a further £30,000 is needed by the British Standards Institute if a really comprehensive standard on wheel fixing is to be produced. Don't wait for others to do it for you. Contribute towards the fund and play an active part in the campaign to end the menace of lost wheels. Remember; the next wheel to be lost could be yours.
