• London Buses has picked the Cummins C Series engine to extend the service life of its 264 Routemaster buses by up to 10 years.
The two-year refurbishment programme will start in April, using engines from Cummins' Darlington plant, which has been producing the C Series since the end of last year.
The replacement engines require only minimal modifications to the cabs and will use the existing cooling system. They are expected to improve fuel and oil consumption and exhaust emission, while reducing front axle loadings.
