AN OPERATOR must wait for an application decision after Deputy Traffic Commissioner Eli7a beth Perrett told him he had "made a pig's ear" of his last licence, which was revoked in 2003.
Middlesbrough-based KP Contracts (Groundworks) was seeking a new one-vehicle restricted licence. Director Kenneth McMenamin said he wanted to operate a grab wagon as he had been paying up to £1,000 a week to hire this equipment.
The application has been adjourned while McMenamin seeks advice about setting up a proper maintenance system.
McMenamin told the DTC
he had been a director of Ground Breaking Services along with his father and brother. He fell out with his brother and left the company, which subsequently went into liquidation.
He told the DTC he had not known that the Ground Breaking Services licence had been revoked: that he had been disqualified from holding an 0-licence for 12 months in December 2003; or that the 0-licence identity discs had never been returned.
The DTC commented that she didn't think McMenamin was being candid about what he did and didn't knowThe licence had been revoked for maintenance problems while he had been at the helm.Vehicles had been used in an appalling condition and safely inspections had been extended to as long as 15 weeks.
"You were responsible for that and made a pig's ear of it," she told McMenamin.
