• The use of bullbars on trucks and off-road vehicles is to be regulated under the Construction & Use Regulations.
By 1996 the Department of Transport plans to have rules in place regulating which bars can be fitted as accessories. It will press for this to be included in an EU Directive to cover their fitting on new vehicles.
There is growing antagonism towards the use of bullbars. The
Transport Research Laboratory estimates that if the use of bullbars continues to increase at its current rate, there will be an extra 35 road deaths and 350 serious injuries a year by 1996. CI Contrary to recent press reports, insurers are not loading their rates for vehicles fitted with bullbars. According to Norwich Union, there is no evidence that vehicles fitted with bullbars generate higher claims.
