• European road freight capacity controls should be scrapped, Freight Transport Association director-general Garry Turvey has told the European Society of Transport Institutes in Brussels.
UK hauliers are geared up to break the chains of capacity restrictions because they have concentrated on quality for many years, said Turvey: "Distribution expertise in the United Kingdom is probably unsurpassed anywhere in the world," he said. Our vehicles are safer than ever before — probably the safest in Europe. Accidents have been drastically reduced, largely due to the fact that the spotlight has been on quality."
