New Year with the launch of an array of new Japanese models. Leisure is a fast-growing market, with the Japanese way ahead of the competitors. They held the top four places in the European sales league last year, led by the Suzuki SJ/ Samurai with sales of 51,500 units taking 22% of the total.
El Rover Group's Range Rover has expanded its position at the luxury end of the market with its sales outstripping the sector in 1987 and 1988. Last month saw the best-ever October in the UK for Range Rover sales with 521 units — an increase of 19% on October 1987. So far this year, UK sales total 5.415 which represents a hefty 23% hike over 1987's record figure of 4,418. Range Rovers are also selling well in Europe.
