• Greater Manchester Buses has bought two ballasted recovery vehicles.
They are based on the Volvo FL617 chassis and were supplied by Volvo Truck's distributor, Manchester Truck & Bus. Fitted with tug bodywork by Wreckers International of Hertford, the trucks are plated at 28 tonnes GTW and can tow vehicles of up to 16 tonnes.
Volvo's optional R1000 wideratio-spread nine-speed synchromesh gearbox, matched to the 148kW (201hp) TD61F engine, gives gradeability of 25% (1-in-4) in full towing trim.
