SURREY-based Tillingbourne Bus Company general manager Barry King and traffic manager George Burnett — themselves poised to expand their services — have formed the Tillingbourne Consultancy to provide low cost consultancy services to other bus and coach operators considering entering the stage carriage or local bus markets.
The consultancy is also planning a deregulation conference at the Green Dragon Hotel, Hereford, on March 20/21.
Speakers at this event are expected to include independent and National Bus Company operators and speakers from local authorities. A conference fee of E95 per person includes meals and accommodation.
Services available from the Tillingbourne consultancy include low cost feasibility studies to define viable route networks, advice on tendering, route planning, publicity, promotion and equipment purchase.
The consultancy offers realistically priced services based on experience gained from practical experience of bus operation rather than academic theory.
• Meanwhile the Tillingbourne Bus Company is the co-ordinating member of a consortium of independent operators planning to take over city bus services in Guildford.
Its plans were the subject of MVA consultancy report commissioned by Surrey County Council which suggested they should go ahead and as a result the company is lodging road service licence applications in December for services starting in April.
It has reached an amicable agreement with London Country one of the two NBC subsidiaries presently providing revenue supported services in the area although it expects opposition from the other, Alder Valley.
It expects support from the co-ordinating authority, Surrey County Council.
