Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• All petrol-engined vehicles registered in the UK from November 10 1973, and not manufactured before September 20 1973, will have to meet new rules for controlling exhaust emissions, conforming with the recommendations of Regulation 15 of the Economic Commission for Europe.

Another anti-pollution measure lately announced was the amendment of the British Standard for petrol which will have the effect of reducing the permitted lead content of petrol to 0.55 grams per litre by the end of 1973 and to 0.45 grnA by the end of 1975. Current BS 4040 permitted level is 0.84.
