• Because vehicles operated by G. W. T. Sanderson (Haulage) Ltd of Wakefield had received one delayed and three immediate GV9s between June 1 and August 6 this year, the company was called before the Yorkshire LA, Maj-Gen Sir John Potter, in Leeds on Monday, to show cause why its ()licence should not be curtailed, suspended or revoked under Section 69 of the Transport Act 1968.
After hearing that the company which originally held a licence authorizing 18 vehicles and three trailers with a margin of six trailers to be acquired, had a satisfactory maintenance and inspection system, Sir John decided to curtail the licence by suspending two vehicles for one month.
It was stated in evidence that all four prohibition notices had been issued at roadside checks and therefore the company was asked to present four vehicles for inspection at local testing centres.
Mr D. Wilkes, a vehicle examiner, said that although the four vehicles were presented at short notice all were found to be in a reasonable condition, one, however, attracting a defect notice.
For the company it was said that each vehicle received a monthly comprehensive maintenance inspection and that proper maintenance records relating to each of the 18 vehicles were also kept.
It is understood that the company and four of its drivers are to appear at a Yorkshire magistrates' court charged with a total of 43 offences concerning drivers' hours.
