• The 1968 Race Relations Act has applied to all employers in Great Britain from last Sunday.
Up till then the employment provisions of the Act had not applied to employers with 10 or fewer workers.
The employment provisions of the Race Relations Act 1968 make it illegal for an employer or anyone concerned with employing people to discriminate against a person, on the grounds of colour, race, or ethnic or national origin, by refusing to employ him for work which is available and for which he is qualified. It is also unlawful to refuse him the same terms and conditions which are available to other employees with the same qualifications. • In addition an employer must give the same opportunities for training and promotion that are given to others and he must not dismiss someone on discriminatory grounds.
