• Britain must have a network of special roads to which heavy vehicles would be restricted, whether or not the Government allowed an increase in the maximum weight of vehicles, said Mr John Peyton, who visited Tilbury Docks this week. It seemed to be no more than common sense to produce such a system, he said, and he accepted that whether Britain entered the Common Market or not some vehicles were much too large for some of the roads they tried to negotiate.
