• Transport operators and car owners should not have to meet the entire bill for research which led to environmental and safety benefits for the whole community, Sir Monty Prichard, president of the Motor Industry Research Association, said on Wednesday. Speaking at the MIFtA annual luncheon, he called upon the Government to take a larger share in supporting such research — as it was doing with the quiet lorry project — and said that Germany and France both spent more government money on research than Britain.
Stressing that MIRA was now available for both private and Governmental research, Sir Monty revealed that MIRA's base at Lindley would be the DoE's main test-station site for type approval.
