THE Velvet-Ride tandem-axle suspension unit made by White Motor Corporation, of Cleveland, Ohio, USA, is to be manufactured at the Huddersfield works of Holset Engineering Co. Ltd. The suspension unit is to be marketed throughout Europe by Holset, which already produces turbochargers and crankshaft dampers.
The suspension unit comprises separate arms on each side of the chassis, one attached to each of the tandem axles, and keyed at the chassis end into a rubber-intorsion unit.
This layout is claimed to provide no-hop springing, with very little transmission of suspension loads into the chassis.
• THE DELIVERY of two Charrold Autobaggers to the Belgian company, SA des Charbonnages de Monceau-Fontaine, Charleroi, brings the total sales of these vehicles to well over 1,000 in use for coal handling alone. Autobaggers are available for all makes of chassis and Charrold reports increasing use for granular materials of many types.
