A SUGGESTION that the Chancellor of the Exchequer should take measures to offset the increase in transport costs resulting from the increased cost of imported fuel, following devaluation, met with little Government response in the Commons last week.
Mr. Gordon Campbell (Tory, Moray and Nairn) who put forward the idea, was reminded that the Chancellor had said some increases in prices would be inevitable.
"But the Government intend to check that there are no unnecessary increases", said Mr. Harold Lever, Financial Secretary to the Treasury.
