DURING the year ended July 31 last, the turnover of Joseph Lucas, Ltd., in all its activities, increased by an average of 20 per cent. Output is to be raised still further during the current year, says Sir Peter Bennett, M.P., chairman, in his annual report.
The distributing organizations which have been established in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, India, Pakistan and the U.S.A. have increased their turnover by more than 50 per cent.
Many departments of the Birmingham factories are now working 48 hours a week, and part-time operatives are extensively employed on an evening shift.
EASTERN AREA FIGHT GOES ON
MEMBERS of ths Passenger Vehicle Operators' Association, meeting at Norwich and Peterborough recently, have indicated that they will continue to oppose area schemes. The reduct:on in the size of the eastern area scheme has not altered their decision to fight nationalization.
