IN REPLY to Alan Bunting (CM 18 July), we're going to have to agree to disagree. Truck cab exterior styling, which represents the dictum that 'form follows function', is difficult to critique in an objective manner Nowhere is this more true than when the truck in question — the new Volvo FH — replaces one as successful as the Classic FH.
Alan is entitled to his views — but that doesn't mean he's right. We have received many compliments from across the globe, all praising the styling of the new FH. For the majority, the design and styling of the cab exterior represents what it is — a fresh approach to truck design.
The truck, as Alan points out tors in terms of fuel economy. Yet, anyone viewing the new FH for the first time will agree that, thanks to detail styling cues and the ironmark badge, that it is still immediately identifiable as a Volvo.
The images above show just how well operators have succeeded in customising their new FHs to suit their requirements, despite the "sadly lacking signwriting space"! "A mess." We think not.
