• Given their statutory position, Traffic Commissioners will not themselves be part of the agency, though their staff will.
The DoT is keen to emphasise the continuing independence of TCs. It says the change will help underline that independent status, emphasising that the Traffic Commissioners will be wholly independent of the new agency in the same way as they are of VI and TAN now.
While management of agency staff and other resources will be the remit of the chief executive, lt will be important to ensure that the objectives and functions of the new agency do not conflict with the role and responsibilities of the TCs.
