• A lorry driver is beginning a year-long prison sentence after a wheel came off his truck on the M6 motorway, killing a passing motorist.

The wheel bounced along the carriageway near junction 16 in Cheshire before crossing the central reservation and hitting a Vauxhall Cavalier driven by a 33 yearold man.

Stephen Devonport of Dudley, West Midlands, pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving but was found guilty by Chester Crown Court after police said he failed to take proper care of the truck. His sentence, which was given at a subsequent hearing at Knutsford Crown Court, included a two-year driving ban.
