• Former John Dee boss John Davison will make his first attempt to break back into haulage on 21 August when he appears at an 0-licence public inquiry before the new Western LA Air Vice-Marshal Ronald Ashford.
The hearing is significant as it will be one of the few times that the Road Haulage Association has opposed an 0-licence on the grounds of good repute.
As Ashford is the senior Traffic Commissioner his decision could affect what happens at other inquiries. During his time as Metropolitan LA, Ashford gained a reputation as a tough enforcer of transport law.
The John Dee Group went out of business early this year. Davison has made several licence applications under the new company name, John Dee Limited — and they are all likely to be opposed by the RHA. The association will not say if its tactics will change if Davison is granted an unconditional licence,
