• The Mercedes-Benz 0.404 coach, which will make its debut at the Kortrijk fair in Belgium this October (CM 25-31 July), will have more rounded side panels than its predecessor, the
0.303. This has sold more than 35,000 units since it was launched 15 years ago.
The 0.404 integral is expected to come to the UK at the end of 1993 and will be available as a double-decker. It will come in three lengths, including a fullsize 12m version; chassis models are expected to follow.
It can be fitted with either a Mercedes-Benz OM 401 LA sixcylinder 9.6-litre turbocharged engine which produces 200kW (268hp), or an OM 402 LA eight-cylinder 12.8-litre turbocharged engine, producing 280kW (375hp).
Air-operated disc brakes are fitted and the front suspension is a multi-link design derived from the manufacturer's cars.
The interior is available in three standards of trim, and all seating is said to have highstrength components to give improved crash protection for passengers.
The 0.404 coach also has an integral floor and sidewall heating and a new air conditioning system.
Mercedes-Benz points out that most of the materials used in the coach were chosen with recycling in mind.
