• Leigh magistrates have decided that a series of charges against Hugh Joseph Carberry, arising out of the use of stolen vehicle excise licences, are so serious that they must be dealt with at Bolton Crown Court.
Joseph Carberry, a partner in Bootle, Liverpool-based Carberry Haulage, is accused of one offence of stealing five vehicle excise licences; one offence of dishonestly handling five stolen excise licences; five offences of making a false excise licence; five offences of fraudulently using excise licences; five offences of using vehicles without using excise licences; and two offences of using vehicles when a higher rate of vehicle excise duty was payable.
