• Yorkshire haulier Potter Group has picked up extensive rail freight business for its Ely rail siding following the closure of Speedlink last month.
The rail siding is servicing loads that were formerly handled by Speedlink in Peterborough, Kings Lynn, and other parts of East Anglia. "We are benefitting because we have the only private rail siding in East Anglia," says Potter managing director Steven Barlow.
However, in net terms Potter has lost out. Speedlink's closure signalled the end of its contract with Guinness, which used Speedlink to despatch loads to Potter's Selby rail siding.
That business has now been transferred to Otis Euro Transrail of Manchester, which is using Railfreight Distribution's full train load service from London (CM 27 June-3 July).
