/ The Lane Group has teamed up with Paris-based freight forwarder Logfret to launch Eurolane, a daily European distribution service.
The partnership expects to open depots in several European cities, according to Mike Earle, the Lane Group's European business development manager.
He says that the daily Paris run is the first step in developing a groupage service which will take Eurolane into the Benelux markets.
Logfret has two depots in Paris and the joint venture will offer customers services to France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
Earle reckons that Logfret's commercial knowledge of European mar kets, when allied to Eurolane's transport expertise, will enable the Lane Group to put its "own wheels under transport for freight forwarding".
LI Peter Lane Transport has persuaded drugs manufacturer Parke-Davis to step up its distribution contract to include the Midlands, Lincolnshire, Wales and the South-West. Peter Lane already covers the North.
The contract involves nightly collections from the Parke-Davis site at Pontypool.
