• The first 4x4 conversions of the Leyland Daf 45 Series by Tamworth-based firm J Roberts are to go into service with a local authority and water firm.
J Roberts was the first converter to offer a 4x4 version of the 7.5 and 10-tonner 45 (CM 18-24 April), although Leyland Daf followed soon after with its own 10-tonne 4x4 variant (9-15 May).
One of the Roberts 4x4s is going into operation with Exeter City Council. It has a gritter body by Econ of Ripon, North Yorks. Welsh Water will take on the first J-reg, also a 10-tonner, and other orders are "in the pipeline", says the company.
Roberts is also carrying out six 4x4 Roadrunner retrofits. It already offers conversions on the Leyland Daf 17-tonner.
