Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

justin.stantonfarbi.ro.uk THE EU IS SET to legislate on the colours that can be used in truck liveries, apparently in an attempt to address the industry's safety record.

As CM went to press, well. placed sources revealed that the so-called 'Tricolore Directive' will effectively dictate that all truck liveries must comprise of three colours in equal measure white, red, and blue. The EU would like the directive to be enforced from 1 January 2012. An EU spokesman refused to confirm the directive, but Danish MEP Olaf Prilo. who sits on the European Parliament's safety committee, offers this statement: "Certainly, improving the safety record of the road transport industry is a priority for us.

"What I can confirm is that we have undertaken research into the main colours of the liveries of trucks involved in road traffic accidents. ment on the outcome of that. except to say the most 'dangerous' colours are clear and we will announce those soon.

"It is too soon to be talking about legislation, though."

However. CM has obtained an artist's impression of a Tricolore Directive-compliant truck in the livery of Dutch flooring specialist Pail Floors (pictured).

A Pail Floors spokesman confirms the firm's involvement and says: "I can't believe the committee won't act swiftly to legislate, not only against `unsafer' liveries, but also to enforce the adoption of 'safer' liveries."

The news has been greeted with dismay. The Road Haulage Association is "incensed at what amounts to nothing more than yet another totally unenforceable Brussels legislative proposal," argues Kate Gibbs, RHA head of communications.

"This is a perfect example of European bureaucracy literally gone mad. Members can be assured we will take every step to fight them on the beaches"
