• The Ford Transit could be the first panel van to be offered with an airbag. According to Mike Plats, commercial vehicle manager, a driver's airbag could be fitted with no modification to the Transit dashboard.
Bags of air
• Vauxhall, like Ford, is putting the emphasis on safety, and now also offers an airbag on the Astra van. The full-size, driver's unit is an option at 1382.98 (exVAT).
Heavy Courier
• A high payload version of the Ford Courier is ready to compete against the Renault Extra 775 and Citroen C15 765. The heavy Courier will probably replace the Escort 40 van and will be launched when the Fiesta receives its next facelift—possibly in the autumn.
Citroen delivers
• Citroen seems to be scoring a hit with vehicles parts factors: both Partco and Autela use the C15D 600 van for deliveries. Partco has bought 289 in the past two years, while Autela has 85 of the model.
Bigger engine
• Nissan has introduced a 4.2-litre six-cylinder diesel for its Patrol GR range of offroad vehicles. The 92kW (124hp) naturally aspirated unit is available in both three and five-door versions Basic prices of the Patrol GR range are £15,314 to £20,421.
Fiat prices up
• Fiat has announced price rises on its light commercials. Car-derived vans go up by 2%: the Uno Van is now £6,042 while the Fiorino diesel is £6,425. There is a 4% increase on the Ducat°, with prices from /9,130 to £15,630.
Troopers too
• isuzu, too, has increased prices on its Trooper range of 4x4 vehicles: the 3.1-litre turbodiesel Trooper Commercial goes up to 113,745 (ex-VAT).
