Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

A LORRY driver from Great Broughton

(Cumberland), Mr. Edward Stephenson, made a successffil claim last week at an Industrial Tribunal in Carlisle for redundancy payment from his former employers.

Mr. Stephenson claimed that he had been dismissed when his former employers had sold part of their fleet of vehicles. "The new owner of the vehicles said that he would take us on, but when he told me his conditions I refused.

"Under him I would have been away from home most of the time. There would have been no guarantee when I would have got home after a run; it could have been a week, a fortnight or perhaps three weeks. Unlike my own job, there would be very little chance of my returning home at night, so I refused."

The firm, John Stamper (Farms) Ltd., a Maryport (Cumberland) firm of hauliers, did not contest the claim.

Chairman of the Tribunal, Mr. C. G. B. Blanthorne. upheld the claim because in his new job, Mr. Stephenson would have lost seniority, having been with Stamper for 12 years, and would hav& had to work long hours without being sure of when he would be returning home.
