TRG LOGISTICS is on a massive recruitment drive as it needs to recruit 839 permanent full-time drivers by the peak week in December to honour its contracts.
"We need 339 drivers for our Tesco work, and the rest will be for a mixture of big and small customers, as well as ad-hoc work," said Trg marketing manager Simon Mooney.
Although Trg has a distribution arm and vehicle rental business, the company's main focus is driver recruitment. "We're placing about 1,000 drivers a week, but still need an additional 839 in the run up to
Christmas," said Mooney.
Mooney confirmed to CM that the drivers would be kept on after the Christmas peak. "Although the pressure eases slightly in January, it picks up quickly after that, so we are able to offer everyone full-time work in 2014."
With such a large number of drivers to recruit in a short space of time, Trg is deploying various tactics. "We're going to base ourselves at truckstops to attract drivers with a more enticing offer than they're getting," explained Mooney. "We have also launched a refera-friend scheme. We sent all our drivers a card in their payslip saying 'if you refer anyone to be a
driver and they start working for us, we'll give you £250'."
Trg Logistics also invests heavily in advertising on online job boards, including commercial motorjobs.com.
"We're getting good exposure online," said Mooney. "If you search for LGV drivers jobs online, we'll appear on almost all of those job sites that are listed."
