by Derren Hayes • A number of P&O Ferrymasters drivers are to be prosecuted for hours and records offences following an early morning raid on the company's Ipswich head office three months ago.

Summons have been issued against 11 Ferrymasters drivers to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on 8 October to answer tachograph offences.

Acting on a tip-off, police and officers from the Vehicle Inspectorate's Norwich office raided Ferrymasters' office at Goddard Road on 3 June, seiz ing tachograph record 4 and other document; (CM 27 June-3 July). The CPS has been examining evidence while it decided whether or not to prosecute, and has told the VI further pr4secuLions could still be brought.

Ferrymasters employs a total of 170 drivers, most of them at its sites in Ipswich, Middles brough and Dover, but ehrlier this year it announced 50 voluntary redundancies.

The company believes the tip-off may have come fltom a disgruntled former employee. Ferrymasters would make no further comment this week.
