veyor belts.
The equipment to scan and direct cartons or packages On a moving belt has been available for some years, but because of the difficulty of getting all the transport operators involved, and —even more difficult—trade and industry, to agree on practicable systems, module sizes, etc, nothing has been accomplished.
Even if there were general agreement, short of a virtually dictatorial system there would be a reluctance on the part of some manufacturers and their design draughtsmen, to produce products conforming with a nat:onally or internationally agreed set of package module dimensions. What makes sense to transport operators and mechanical handling engineers, who are jointly interested in maximiSing payloads either in weight or volume, may appear to be reactionary nonsense to -the design stylist with an eye to a sector of consumers.
