Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MECCA—the goal for hauliers who want to stamp out horsetrading over freight rates on the Middle East route—is now firmly in sight.

The steering committee set up at a recent meeting (CM July 11) to further the proposed Middle East Carriers Conference Agreement (Mecca) has decided to form a body called the Mecca Road Associ ation.

Membership will be divided into three sections—shippers, carriers and forwarding agents —with specific criteria for joining the Association and tariff structures for each section.

Between now and the next steering committee meeting, scheduled for October 1, subcommittees representing the interests of each section will meet to decide their own parti cular costing, rates, regulations, profit margins and agreed codes of conduct and discipline.

The findings of these three groups will then be discussed by the steering committee, the rules for membership finalised and circularised to all interested parties.

The Mecca committee is appealing for initial contributions of £15 in order to publi cise its aims, attract potent members and meet formati costs. The Mecca Road As; dation will be a non-proi making body and all contrit tions will go towards a joini fee once the Association firmly established. Paymer should be sent to Elizabe Wilde, 41 Roman Road, C chester, Essex, and chequ should be made out to t Mecca Road Association.
