"MOTORWAYS A BOON TO COACH OPERATORS"
COACHES will be able to cut three hours off the time for a 200-mile journey when the new motorways are extended as trunk routes. This is forecast by Mr. H. Bottomley, general manager of Ribble Motor Services, Ltd., in the company's staff bulletin.
" For the first time in history," he says, "public service vehicles will be able to travel at speeds appropriate to the conditions prevailing at the time, instead of having imposed upon them a maximum of 30 m.p.h. . . . This marks the beginning of a new era in road travel, the benefits of which we shall be able to pass
on to our passengers in due course as new motorways come into being in various parts of the country.
"Today, under favourable conditions, our express vehicles can average no more than 25 m.p.h., but upon the new motorways an average of 40 m.p.h. will be attained with less driving effort than 25 m.p.h. A 200-mile journey now taking eight hours will be accomplished in five."
