When it comes to matters of fuel consumption, the Hawk, with his trusty Reliant Robin, has always been a bit smug (a bItAl—Ed).
However, the rest of you suckers out there driving gas guzzlers might be interested in figures released by the Irish Energy Centre. They show that having a roof rack loaded with luggage can increase fuel consumption by a whopping 40%.
Other ways to burn extra fuel include fitting a cycle rack with two bikes (up by 1015%); "aggressive driving* (10-12%); front window half open (5-10%); rear screen demister (3-5%); open sunroof (34%) and low tyre pressure (2-3%). Well I'm blowed!
