Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

1111 An experimental truck ban on vehicles over 7.5 tonnes in Stamford, Lines has met resistance from local hauliers.

The ban came into force on 8 October; it will be in place for 12 months after which the scheme will be reviewed. The Freight Transport Assodation is understood to be planning a formal objection and at least two local hauliers have already written to Lincolnshire County Council.

Vehicles needing to load or unload are exempt, but through traffic has to use alternative routes such as the A1, A15 or 1147.

Councillor Ian Croft, chairman of the council's highways and planning committee, says: The aim of the scheme is to improve the environment of Stamford and to prevent damage to the roads and buildings of England's finest stone-built town. We hope it will successfully rid the town of the damaging effects of heavy lorries, which has caused widespread concern."

Any comments should be addressed to: Divisional Highways Manager, Lincolnshire County Council, South Kesteven and Sleaford Division, Annex C, County Offices, Eastgate, Sleaford, Lincolnshire NC34 7EB.
