Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Volvo will launch a production version of its six-litre super/turbo-charged engine in an F1.6 fire appliance at this week's Fire '95 exhibition in Harrogate, as predicted in Commercial Motor (24-30 August 1995).

The new engine, tagged the D6A250, meets the Euro-2 emission standard but initially it will only be available in the UK.

The first chassis has already been fitted with water tender bodywork; it will be operated by Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services from the end of this year. The D6A250 engine is rated at 247hp (184kW) at 2,400rpm with 610Ibft (825Nrri) of torque at 1,500rpm—this is around 19% more power and 18% more torque than the most powerful FL6 fire appliance currently available.

A mechanically driven supercharger pumps air into the engine at low revs, when the turbocharger is least effective. As the engine speed rises and the turbocharger takes effect, the supercharger is disengaged.

Volvo is also looking at supercharging its larger engines.
