Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A fast charging system for electrically powered urban buses and delivery vehicles has been developed by GM subsidiary Delphi Automotive Systems. The technology allows the vehicle batteries to be given "booster shots" while waiting at a bus terminal or depot.

The fast-change system is on test with two diesel/electric buses operating in the city of Luxembourg. Each vehicle is powered by two electric motors driven by a one-tonne pack of lead-acid batteries.

An on-board VW-engined generator is used for less environmentally sensitive parts of the route but a booster charge can be delivered in less than 12 minutes at a bus terminal.

The state of charge can be raised by 40% from a power "storage system", which itself is slow-charged from the mains using off-peak electricity, This allows extended operation of the on-board battery pack.
