Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MERCEDES Benz commercial vehicle production dropped to 239,702 in 1978 compared with 248,100 in the previous year according to the company's annual report published this week.

The greatest decline was at the heavier end of the market — vehicles over 16 tons — whereas the production of vans of up to four tons gvw increased. Indeed, in Germany, the production mix was changed in favour of these lighter vehicles.

Sales revenue in the commercial vehicle division increased by 5.2 per cent in 1978 to 13.3m DM and in the same year new registrations of MB commercials in Germany increased by 16.3 per cent to 79,809.

But worldwide exports of MB declined by 15.4 per cent to 93,163 vehicles in 1978, this reduction being largely caused by fewer exports to the oil producing countries of the Middle East.
