• A letter of protest is being sent to Lord Stokes, chairman of British Leyland, by the public services committee of Chester Corporation. The committee is annoyed at a 20 per cent rise in the price of the company's bus chassis in two years.
Mr David Clark, the town's transport manager, told the committee that six doubledeck bus chassis were ordered in 1971 at a cost of £5,591 each. Three were delivered last year and the committee accepted an increase of £232 per chassis.
The remaining chassis were delivered only last month and British Leyland sent in invoices for £6,714 per chassis. Mr Clark said that the company blamed strike-bound suppliers for the delay and that the Pay Board had approved the increase.
The committee decided to recommend the council to pay the increased prices but to send a letter of protest to Lord Stokes alleging shoddy treatment.
