STAND No. 6.

British Agents: F. C. R. Browne. Ltd., 13, Duke • Street, S.W. 1.

THERE are very few vehicles on the )1.-itielt market to oppose the popularity of the Ford chassis, but one of that number is certainly the Vim chassis, an 'example of which bedecks the stand of F. Cl. R. Browne, Ltd., the sole amcessionnaires for this vehicle. It is designed to Gamy 10-15 cwt.

This vehicle is manufactured in one of the largest American lorry factories, whose sole production has always been concentrated on the commercial vehicle. The engine employed is it four-cylinder manobloc with a bore and stroke of 3i ins. and 4,1 ins, resPeetively, developing 15.5 nominal h.p. All the valves are on the oil side, where is also situa ed the compound-jet type Zenith carb etter. A three-bearing crankshaft is em sloyed, the bearings of which are white ii etalled bronze. A combination of fore d feed and splash is employed for lobscation, and a tell-tale is conveniently s tuated on the dash. Cooling is effecte by a radiator of the built-up type, the t nks of which are constructed of presse steel, the component being flexibly men ted on a special cross-member. An o dinary Ferodo-faced disc is employed, and it takes the drive to a Browne-Lipe 9earbox which forms a unit with the ngine. This box gives three speeds iorve rd and a-reverse, the change-speed lever operating on the gate system being centrally positioned. From the gearbox a tubtlar shaft provided with double universal joints carries the drive to a Sheldon worm-driven rear axle of the send-floating type. It should be notecl•that this axle is of particularly sturdy construction. All the wheels of the Vim chassis are provided with 31 in. by 4 in. pneumatic tyres, the wheelbase of the vehicle being 9 ft., and the tread 4 ft. 8 ins.

A refinement 011 this ehassis Should be particularly appreciated is the fitting of an electric light equipment and the employment Of a -Westinghouse selfstarter.
