STAND No. 1.

British Agents! Werth-Western Motors, Ltd., Mersey Chambers, Covert Garden, Liverpool.

T" TRAFFIC lorry has been on the British market for several months past, and during that time has gained many followers. An example of the 30 cwt. model is shown by North Western Motors, Ltd., of Norton Street, Liverpool, the sole agents for the British Isles.

The engine employed on this chassis is of the weil-knewn Continental Had Seal type. It has a bore of 31 ins, and a stroke of 5 ins., and its high-tension magneto is provided with an impulse starter. The four cylkiders are cast en bloc, and the valves are totally enclosed by two covers: The crankshaft is well proportioned, and has three liberal-sized bearings. The crankcase is an aluminium casting. The inlet and exhaust valves are interchangeable, and they have nickel steel heads electrically welded to carbon steel stems. A large cellular radiator mounted in a four-piece cast-ho shell on protecting bumpers operates n conneetion with the thermo-syphonic system of cooling aided by a 16 in. clianitt r beltdriven fan. The model N, Re Seal, Continental engine, which is the power unit incorporated, has a combina ion of forced feed and &pleh lubx cation. A horizontal plunger pump 'vi ch is driven by an eccentrie from the ca shaft forces oil through copper tubes d ect to the timing gear and main bearing.'

The drive from the engine is taken through a dry plate multiple disc clutch to a Covert gearbox, which p °vides three speeds forward and a revert., Ball and roller bearings are provided or the main and lay shafts.

The cardan shaft is in two secti ns and is providedewith three universal joints. The front half of the shaft is ntai tamed in alignment by a 3 in. Hyatt roller bearing. The driving shaft' is ado of solid carbon steel.

The well-known Russel intern .Igear drive axle is employed. It is of the " dead" type in which the wheels ran freely on a solid steel bar. A subsidiary axle carries the, bevel geiying and differential and the two driving shafts, each of which is provided with a pinion meshing with internally-toothed drums on the rear wheels. Two side brakes of the internal and external type operate on drums bolted to the rear wheels. The bearings of the rear wheels are of the Timken tapered roller type.

The Traffic chassis is recognizable by its 6 in. II-channel structural steel frame. The frame has a curved front and rear cross-member, and it is claimed that. its construction dispenses with the need for cross-memberS at frequent intervals. The curved ends are strongly gusseted, the front end acting as a bumper for protecting the radiator. With this design of frame, the conventional type of dumb' iron is dispensed with.

The wheelbase of the Traffic lorry is 11 ft. I in., the tread being 4 ft. 8 ins.
