A RANGE of Stewart chassis is marketed in. this country, and of le five models for which Melchior, Armtrong and Deseau, Ltd., are the agents, ;hreo are shown. These comprise a Sloclel 9, to carry 30 'cwt., a. Model 11, to .!-,arry ton, and a Model 12, to carry 1 en. A Continental Red Seal engine is employed es the pdwer unit on the 30 net. mode!. It has a bore and stroke sf3,ei ins. and 5 ina. respectively, the -.,-headed ea-din:dere being cast en bloc. Ile cylinder heads form a separate east,rig, thus permitting -uniformity of the ylinder cores and leas liability to initial tresses.

The crankcase is an aluminium casting„ vhilst the lower hell is made of pressed ,teel. and is easily removable, rendering he bearings very aecessible. Water cool_ ng is on the thermossyphonie principle, and the cast-iron radiator has a centre composed of copper tubes ; a fan driven by a. V pulley assists the cooling effect.

The engine, clutch, and gearbox are arranged on the unit system. The clute.h is of the multiple-disc dry plate type, and the gearbox, which is of the ordinary selective sliding type, provides three &pee& forward and a reverse. The gears are heavy and made of carbon steel, annular ball bearings being used throughoat the box. The change-speed lever is centrally positioned, and operates in. a ball and socket.

The propeller shaft is in two sections, embodying three universal joints and a splined slip joint to allow for the backward and forward movement of the rear axle. The back axle ewhieh is a Clark, a favourite with Atrecansnanrufzeturers, 1.5* of the type in which the load rind by a, solid axle, and the driving is done by a ,builieup axle, the final drive being by Maori-Jai gears. A hand brake operates on the rear wheels through the medium of bands which contract on the exteriors of the internally-tootled rings. The wheels are of the artillery type, and solid tyres of 34 in. by 31 in. on the front and 34 in. by 5 in. on the roar are fitted. The wheelbase is 11 ft. 8 ins., the track being 4 ft. 8 ins.

The 20 owe model also has a Continental elle:no, and the details for this ehaseis are similar in many respects to the 30 cwt. model. The wheelbase, however, is 10 ft. 10 in., the track being 4 ft. 8 Ins.

The 15 cwt. model embodies a fans cylinelered rnonabloc Le Rai engine.
