THE SENTINEL Co.'s exhibit is in the nature of a massed attack upon the visitor. He is, to use a. Lancashire expression " Mazed wi' choice." Con siderable interest, however, is evinced in the Liverpool type eight tomer, probably for the reason that only a few out of the many spectators will ever be able to have one for themselves' and because there is always more attraction in the thing which is forbidden. This vehicle, as we have before remarked, is only possible in Liverpool, where the conditions call for a machine which can handle heavy loads, and where the city authorities have seen the wisdom of making special provision in favour of such a " wagon. '

The Sentinel occupies the same position in the undertype wagon world as does the Foden in the overtype. If not the pioneer, it is at least the best known. One of its leading features is the centrally pivoted front whees, a construction which this company originated for steam wagons and one which appears to be likely to be largely copied. An examination of the front wheels will demonstrate to the visitor that the hubs are unusually large, and a closer inspection will show that this is because the steering pivot is contained within the hub. The advantage of this construction is that the pivot is thus enabled to be placed precisely over the point of contact of the wheel with the road.

• The next feature of importance, but, mifortunately, one which may net so easily be examined -by the visitor to the Show, is the boiler. This is of the vertical type, with water tubes; that is to say, it is the reverse of the smoke tube type which is generally used on the overtype wagons. In the latter, the fire and burning gases run along the inside of the tube and the water flows outside. In the former, the water tube type, the water circulates inside the tubes and the fire plays upon the outside. The Sentinel boiler efficieney is further improved by the addition, of a superheater, which is a coif of tubes placed inside the boiler fine. The steam passes through this coil on its way to the engine, and is further heated and dried before use.
