AONE-TONNER which embodies many interesting features is the Oldsmobile shown by General Motors, Ltd. The engine is of the four-cylinder overhead-valve type, with a bore and stroke of 311 ins. and 5,1 ins. respectively,

its R.A.C. rating being 21.7. Three heavy bronze babbitt-faced bearings are employed for the chrome vanadium steel crankshaft, these being of ample proportions. -A combined system of splash and Forced feed is used for lubrication. Oil is circulated by a gear-driven pump driven by the generator armature shaft and mounted on the gear cover, which draws the oil from the lowest point of the reservoir and forces it through a pipe to the distribution chamber in the crankcase, from which it is fed to the small oil pan under each connecting rod and to the three main bearings under pressure, the

pressure being indicated by a gauge on the instrument board. A governor is

fitted which limits the speed to 22 m.p.h A centrifugal pump is empleyed for water cooling and a belt-driven fan aids to this end.

The clutch is of the leather-faced cone type, and the gearbox is of the ordinary selective-sliding type, providing three forward speeds and a reverse. The gearbox and clutch form a single unit with the engine. The tubular propeller abaft, with two dustproof universal joints, transmits the drive to an Oldsmobile-Torbensen internal gear type rear axle, the final gear reduction being 64 to 1 at the rear wheels. This type of axle incorporates a separate load-carrying member, which is an I-beam steel forging. The driving member consists of the differential and jack shaft.

The wheelbase of this chassis is 10 ft.

ins., the tread being 4 ft. 8 ins. The ground clearance at its lowest point is 104 ins.
