STAND No. 19.

British Agents: International Harvester co., ot Great Britain, Ltd., 80, Finsbury 'Pavement, London, E.C.2.

ON THIS STAND is exhibited a 30 cwt. Model K International chassis fitted with a .stake and chain body, and an International Junior tractor.

Dealing first with the chassis, this in outward appearance is very similar to the Renault, the ,,radiator being positioned at the dash and the bonnet lifting up from the front and so expOsing the whole engine to view. For a commercial vehicle, this is certainly quite sound design, as the engine is thereby rendered extremely accessible.

Ths latter is a four-cylindered mono-, bloc, L-headed, the bore and stroke being

ins, and 5 ins. respectively. The valves are, enclosed by a plate, and the unit is supported in e sub-frame; incidentally, this also supports theegearbox. To assist in silencing the engine the timing gears have helical teeth. The crankshaft is supported in three white-metallined bearings, whilst the camshaft rune In phosphor-bronze bushes.

For igititiane a high-tension magneto is employedeand this is located in front of the engine and driven by a cross shaft. The clutch, which runs dry, is of the multiple-disc type, asbestos friction material being interposed between the plates. • Close behind the clutch is positioned a chain wheel, driving, or being driven,, by the combined_ starting and lighting electric unit through the Medium et :a silent chain; accumulators' for use with this unit are situated on the near she running board,' and contained in a case built up from steel Pressings. The gearbox provides three speeds forward and a reverse, the change speed being of the sliding zele-etiVe type. Power is transmitted through a. tubular pro peller shaft, proVided with .fork-and-Pin . typo universal joints at each eaid, to a double-reduction rear axle, in which is embodied a separate load-carrying mema ber, and to the latter is bolted the bevel gear and differential ease, from which two shafts, provided with spur gears at their outer ends, carry the drive to internally-toothed rings bolted co the rear wheels. The latter are coustructed of wood, with square spokes. „

The International Junior tractor is a machine which has performed its dutiee very well in the vasious tractor trials which have been held'in this country. It incorporates the sloping bonnet and radiator behind engine as in the lorry. The engine is four-cylindered, and ha'l overhead valves; the bore and stroke wed 4' ins. 'and 5 ins. respectively A notable feature in the engine construction is that the cylinders have renewable sleeves. Three-point suspension is employed, and. it is designed to run on paraffin.

The gearbox provides three speeds forward and a reverse, the whole of the transmission being enclosed within dust'proof eases. The drive from the gearbox is taken through bevel geariaLto a primary Cross shaft, and thence to a secondary shaft, which incorporates the differential, final drive .being by chain to largo rear wheels.
