STAND No. 105.
British Agents: Richard Thynne and Co., eta, 15-17, Eldon Street, London, E.0.2.
THE HAWKEYE chassis is a typical American production, incorporating, as it does., reliable anl well-tried components made by specialists of repute. Two models only are shown on the stand of the British. agents, Richard Thynne and Co., Ltd., one being a two-tonner and the other a three-tonner.
In general points of construction, there is much in these two models which is identical; for instance, each incorporates four-cylindered Buda engine with a bore and stroke of 44 ins. by 51 ins. This particular "engine we have described on
many occasions in the past, so that there is no need to eater into a lengthy description regarding it, other than, to say that the oil is fed under pressure from a gear type pump through the hollow crankshaft to all the main and connecting rod bearings. The cooling water circulation is by centrifugal pump through a radiator with a east-iron header and bottom tank ; a 16 in. fan mounted on ball bearings and driven by a leather belt 14r in. wide aids in the cooling effect. The drive is taken through a Fuller multiple-disc clutch to a gearbox, also of Fuller manufacture, which provides four speeds forward and a reverse, the gear ratios being
38 to 1, 24 to 1, 12.8 to 1, 8 to 1, and reverse 52 to L
The gearbox and clutch are built up as a unit with the engine, change-Teed levers for, the control of the first pinion . being mounted on top of the box. The ' card= shaft carries the drive to an internal gear rear axle of Clark manufacture, which is a type of axle much favoured by American manufacturers and one which has given -every satisfaction under arduous conditions of running.
The standardwheelbase of the two ton chassis is 12 ft. 4i ins., that for the three tanner being.13 ft. 4 ins., the track for each model being 4 ft. 4 ins.
