WILLYS-OVERLAND, LTD., stage an example of the Garford lorry built to carry a load of 30 cwt. It embodies a four-cylindered: engine of the monobloc type, with L-headed cylinders, having a bore and stroke of 3a ins. and 51 ins. respectively. Three-point suspension is adopted. The eran,koase is in two separate pieces, the upper casting supporting the bearings, shafts, and gears, the lower forming an eaeily removable oil reservoir. The valves are totally enclosed and are situated on the rikht side of the engine. Lubrication is by splash, a. eight feed gauge. being situated on the dash. Water cooling is by centrifugal pump through large passages. The clutch is of the multiple dry-disc type enclosed in a housing attached to the crankcase, and it-conveys the drive toa, gearbox of the ordinary selective gear type, -which gives three speeds forward and a reverse. Final drive is by worm and worm wheel through floating

axle shafts to wood artillery type rear wheels. The worm is of hardened steel and the worm wheel of bronze. The road thrust on the wheels is taken directly by the wheel bearings and not transmitted to the differential bearings. The differential carrier also supports the

bearings of the worm shaft, and makes a unit of the worm, wovm gear,' and differential, and contains all the bearings and adjustments necessary for these parts. The rear axle housing is made of. pressed steel. Springs of the semielliptic type are fitted both front anal rear, and a heavy coil bumper spring is also provided at the rear. Cetitray. control is utilized for the gearbox.

The frame is of pressed steel channel section adequa.tely reinforced with guig.: setssand cross-members. The front axle is an I beam drop forging.

The wheelbase of this chassis is 11 ft.. 3 ins., the track being 4 ft. 8 ins. Pnea' ma-tic tyres, 36 ins. by 6 ins., are fitted to all four wheels, and a tyre pimp for inflation purposes is incorporated, the -latter being worked from the engine.
