25 cwt. Chassis. Lorry:
STAND No. 48.
T NTERESTING features of the . Albion exhibit are the three examples of the new 20 model which makes it appearance after .some two ..years of ex perimental work and thorough testing. There is an unquestioned. demand for a 25 cwt. vehicle and for a passenger vehicle of a lighter type than the usual. These. requirements should certainly be met m this new Albion production, which retains all the Albion characteristics,of sound and substantial design combined with a very high degree Of efficiency. The chassis is well sprung, and the engine • is extremely quiet, whilst possessed of excellent powers of acceleration. The. rnonohloc engine has a detachable lead, and has a three-point suspension. The accessibility of .all• details is excellent. The valves are entirely unencumbered, and the carburetter, which is a special type of horizontal Zenith, is placed so that the removal of jets is, the simplest possible matter. The designers have, however, recognized that, whilst accessibility of some details is essential, others are better concealed, and an example of this is 'afforded by the" governor, which is entirely enclosed and quite beyond the reach of the driver. Even the throttle control, rod is enclosed in a tube. . The Murray mechanical. ',lifioricator is used, and ensures a positive feed to every cylinder, main bearing, .and big-end, whilst an extra lead looks after the governor and timing gears. The final drive is by worm, the worm being of the overhead type mounted on the axle cover plate. The axle is a one-piece steel forging of the full floating type, the wheels being clutch driven. The forward half of the semi-elliptic
springs take the drive and torque.
A 4 ton tipping wagon is shown, this being a standard Albion, model that has achieved an extremely wide popularity. The. tipping gear, with Flele-Shaw pump, is very effective, and very easily controlled. Also mountecl on a .32 h.P. chassis is the 4 ton lorry shown—a type well known to all leers, and which made a wonderful reputation an the war, nearly 0,000'Albions of this type. being in commission. This vehicle le, of course, chain driven. Another exhibit is a 30cwt. box van of the type that they have been producing in very large: quantities since the armistice. This chassis has a 20 h.p. engine with its cylinders" in pairs, whilst the live axle is bevel driven.
